BURTONSVILLE LIONS CITRUS FRUIT FUNDRAISING SALE

Your Burtonsville Lions Club continued to support our Burtonsville area during the Covid Pandemic. We fed our Burtonsville Volunteer Fire Department for many shifts. We fed a full day of both shifts at our newest hospital, White Oak Adventist Healthcare Center during the early crisis days. These are our Heros and we needed to support them. We have supported four of our local food banks. We’re sure you have seen the lines increase at these food banks during these times. We did this through direct financial contributions and by purchasing food through our local restaurants. They needed help also. They were all great successes and we were proud to help.

WE SERVE

While we were able to help our local Heros and restaurants we were not able to do any fundraising to support these and future support for our Burtonsville Community. Our most promising new fundraising idea is to hold a citrus fruit sale in the downtown Burtonsville area this fall. This requires an outlay of money to purchase the Texas citrus fruit sale and we are trying to gauge the amount of oranges and grapefruit we could sell.

If you could please respond by email and let us know if you and your friends and neighbors would support the Burtonsville Lions so we can get this off the ground.

SERVING THE BURTONSVILLE COMMUNITY SINCE 1954

The Burtonsville Lions Club was chartered in 1954 to join with the other clubs in pledging unselfish service to our local community and to those less fortunate than ourselves. Club members volunteer their time and energy to a variety of fundraising efforts, all of the profits from which are then designated for charitable uses. In typical years, through the efforts of our members and friends, we staff White Cane collection days, sell Christmas trees, and conduct a charity golf tournament.

While a portion of our budget supports the programs of the larger International Association, our aim is to donate and otherwise spend our funds locally. Currently 80% of our annual operating budget is directed toward local efforts.

WE PROVIDE:

  • Scholarships for local students
  • Eye exams and eyeglasses
  • Hospital and convalescent equipment

WE SUPPORT:

  • Lions Camp Merrick (La Plata, MD)
  • Blood Collection Programs
  • Local Youth Sports programs
  • Local Scouting programs
  • Burtonsville Day Celebration
  • Washington Wheelchair Society
  • Leader Dogs for the Blind
  • Lions Clubs International Foundation
  • District 22-C Music Band Program
